The Atui is an explicit example of the importance of window mapping with consideration of sun orientation to allow an abundance of natural lighting to stream into the home and also act as a natural thermal control.

Elevated cathedral ceilings further assist with natural ventilation and strategically positioned louvres to allow for air to cycle. These conscious design decisions contribute to The Atiu’s achievement of a 7.5-star energy rating. There is a minimal amount of solid wall replaced by colonial windows and doors which allow for a breathable home and subtly connect the interior and outside spaces as one.

The exterior decking at the rear of the home connects to the living spaces creating a pressing layout for entertaining friends and family. The single storey home features grey polished concrete flooring and carpeted bedrooms. The home has also had beautiful sliding barn doors installed internally. The exterior is constructed of weatherboard; a striking element of the pacific range originally influence by traditional tropical bungalows.

Although only a two-bedroom home with a media room and double garage, the open-plan layout expands usable space within this home creating a more functional and breathable environment.
